The factions are from the 'Free Syria Army' which is highly fragmented and does not have a real command, and is disjointed from the 'Syrian National Council' based abroad with little relevance to affairs inside Syria. The 'Free Syrian Army' is also allied with several Al-Qaeda groups behind indiscriminate suicide bombings and IED attacks, and has not distanced itself from them or their ideology.
