Syrian opp. serves interests of West

by
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says Washington plays a role in the turmoil in Syria by supporting the armed gangs to destabilize the country.

Assad told the German ARD television channel in an interview on July 5, which was aired on Sunday, that the United States is "part of the conflict," and that "they offer the umbrella and political support to those gangs to... destabilize Syria."

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.

While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing the protesters, Damascus blames "outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups" for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Randy Short, Dignity, Human Rights and Peace Organization, from Washington, to further discuss the issue.
