Pro-Russian activists storm Kharkiv, Ukraine government building
KHARKIV, Ukraine; March 1, 2014 (RFE/RL) -- Pro-Russian activists have broken into the regional administration building in Ukraine's eastern city of Kharkiv. RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service correspondent in Kharkiv reports that the attackers forced their way into the building, firing tear gas and breaking windows. Gunshots were heard in the central square near the building, where thousands of pro-Russian demonstrators gathered Saturday holding Russian flags and chanting "Russia! Russia!" In the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, thousands of pro-Kremlin demonstrators have blocked the regional administration building and replaced a nearby Ukrainian national flag with a flag of the Russian Federation.
