"BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) continues to investigate a drainpipe, spewing out a bizarre concoction at Ward's Creek off Essen Lane.
DEQ officials said Benny's Car Wash is the culprit. The drainpipe is supposed to only discharge rainwater.
The small creek across from Our Lady of the Lake was heavily discolored. A thick red substance made its way downstream.
"It's definitely some sort of chemical maybe a cleaning agent of some kind," said David Guillory, DPW assistant director.
Guillory added his office received several complaints from concerned citizens.
"We've had people out yesterday and today to find out where it's coming from. We haven't seen any dead fish or birds," said Rodney Mallet with DEQ.
Mallet said the substance is unlikely toxic. DEQ will charge Benny's for the cleanup efforts.
Investigators are still trying to find out exactly what the chemical is. There has been no comment from Benny's in the matter."
