Bin Laden sons protest to US over 'arbitrary killing
10 May 2011 Last updated at 19:36 ET
The sons of Osama Bin Laden have criticised the US authorities for carrying out his "arbitrary killing".
A statement given to the New York Times newspaper said the family wanted to know why the al-Qaeda leader had not been captured alive.
Relatives who survived the 2 May raid in Pakistan should be freed, it said.
Another statement appeared on a jihadist web More..site saying the burial of Bin Laden at sea "demeans and humiliates his family".
Osama Bin Laden was shot dead by US special forces during a raid on his home in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad.
The statement printed by the New York Times was attributed to Bin Laden's fourth son, Omar Bin Laden, who has repeatedly distanced himself from his father's ideology.
The statement said that in absence of a body or photographic evidence, the family were not convinced he was dead.
But if he was dead, it said, they were questioning "why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world".
Humiliation
They argue Bin Laden's killing had broken international law and that figures such as former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic had been given the chance to stand trial.
"We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems and crime's adjudication as justice must be seen to be done."
The family said they were demanding a enquiry into why Bin Laden was "summarily executed without a court of law" and demanded the release of his three wives and several children, who are believed to be in Pakistani custody.
The statement also said the US decision to bury Bin Laden's corpse at sea had deprived the family of performing religious rites.
A slightly different version of the report was published on a jihadist websites, said the SITE Intelligence Group.
It said US President Barack Obama was "legally responsible" for clarifying "the fate of our father" and that the sea burial "demeans and humiliates his family and his supporters".
US President Barack Obama has urged Pakistan to investigate how the al-Qaeda leader could live in the garrison city of Abbottabad undetected and to find out if any officials knew of his whereabouts.
Pakistan's PM Yousuf Raza Gilani has insisted that allegations of Pakistani complicity and incompetence are "absurd".

Three US soldiers killed in Afghanistan
Three more US-led foreign soldiers have been killed in separate bombing incidents in the ongoing war in Afghanistan, the Western military alliance says.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Tuesday that two of its service members were killed on Monday in southern Afghanistan, Reuters reported.
Both were killed by improvised bombs in separate incidents, the coalition added.
Th More..e exact location of the incidents and the soldiers' nationalities remain unknown.
However, most of the troops in south Afghanistan are purportedly American.
Also on Tuesday, an improvised bomb killed a NATO-led Romanian soldier in the southern region of Zabul.
28-year-old Catalin-Ionel Marinescu was killed during a patrol in the region, Romania's defense ministry said.
He is the 19th Romanian soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2003, when Bucharest joined the military intervention in that country.
There are a total of 1,770 Romanian troops currently deployed in Afghanistan.
Nearly 170 US-led soldiers have so far been killed in war-wrecked Afghanistan since the beginning of 2011.
Last year, nonetheless, remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties with a death toll of 711. The number eclipsed the previous record of 521 set in 2009.
Statistics about civilian death tolls in war-hit Afghanistan are not available. However, it is estimated that between 14,000 and 34,000 Afghan civilians have been killed since the beginning of the US-led war.
Tens of thousands of Afghan civilians have also died as a consequence of displacement, starvation, lack of medical treatment, crime and lawlessness resulting from the war.
Meanwhile, hundreds of civilians have been killed in US-led airstrikes and ground operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months.
Western public opinion is growing increasingly tired of the war. Deaths of civilians in NATO and US attacks have also fueled tensions between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his Western allies.
This is while some 150,000 NATO troops are currently fighting in war-ravaged Afghanistan, with plans to stay in the Asian country beyond 2014.

Never-ending UFO sightings astonish Russia
Michael Cohen m.cohen@allnewsweb.com
A number of countries are currently experiencing UFO sightings at an unprecedented level: One of these countries is Russia: Dozens of sightings are occurring there daily to the shock of thousands of citizens who witness these craft.
Only weeks after thousands saw what might have been a giant UFO either crash or land in a wooded area in the Yakutsk region of Siberia, a UFO has been sighted in the oil town of Khanty Mansiysk.
The UFO, seen in the news report below (lower video), was disc shaped and a luminous blue colour. According to witnesses the craft hovered silently in the sky before vanishing. Meanwhile in the town of Volkhov another UFO was seen only days ago (first video below): in this case the object, also glowing, was diamond shaped.
Now scientists and researchers are asking; Why are UFO events occurring at such an increasing rate? Many believe aliens might be trying to warn humanity of some impending disaster.
What do you think?
