Taliban Launch Assault on Kabul
The Taliban commenced their annual 'Spring Offensive' by launching a series of attacks on Kabul and the provinces of Logar and Paktia on April 15, 2012. Targets included the parliament buildings and several embassies in Kabul. Most of the attackers were apparently killed, but the survivors continue to skirmish with Afghan security forces.
South Sudan captures prisoners of war from North
Fighting continues between Sudan and South Sudan over Higleg. Both sides are ignoring international calls to stop the violence. And South Sudan says it has captured a number of prisoners of war from the North. Nazanine Moshiri reports from Juba.
Kabul bomb wave, rockets fired: Taliban targets diplomats & NATO
At least a dozen large explosions, followed by rocket fire and automatic gunfire, struck Kabul on Sunday in what appears to be a coordinated attack on the diplomatic area and the NATO base. The Taliban says it's behind the attacks. Afghanistan International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed multiple attacks on seven locations across Kabul but gave no details on the casualties.
