'Syria militants may resort to WMD'

A political analyst tells Press TV that we must expect to see some kind of chemical weapons being used by the rebels in Syria to accuse the government of using such weapons against its own people.

This is while Syria has told the United Nations it would never use chemical weapons on its people, warning that 'terrorist groups' may resort to such weapons in the ongoing turmoil in the country.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Redwan Rizk, political analyst, to further discuss the issue.

Syria - FSA Front Line Clashes (December 2012)

The 2011--2012 Syrian uprising is an ongoing internal conflict in Syria, a part of the wider Arab Spring, that began in January 2011. Public demonstrations first took place on 26 January 2011, but were only a sporadic occurrence until mass protests erupted in Damascus on 15 March.[48] The situation quickly developed into a full-scale nationwide uprising, with protesters demanding the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad and the overthrow of the government. The situation in Syria is part of the Arab Spring, a wave of social upheaval throughout the Arab World demanding greater political freedom and an end to autocracy. Inspired by the successful revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, Syrian protesters have employed the use of tactics such as marches, hunger strikes, rioting, and vandalism, in a sustained campaign of civil resistance aimed at ending nearly five decades of Ba'athist rule. The uprising was described as "unprecedented" by several political commentators

A mysterious green flash seen streaking across the sky in Harris County early Friday morning was likely a meteor, officials said.

The streaking green glow was reportedly seen about 7 a.m. arching across the sky by people in Sugar Land, Tomball, Crosby, Shelton and dozens of other spots, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Some reports had the light being spotted as far north as Dallas.

Deputies said patrol units also reported seeing the flash and burst of green.

The eerie gleaming light was also reported by people in Austin, said Chris McKinney, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

McKinney said it is believed to have been a meteor and possibly part of the Geminids meteor shower which usually is visible this time of year in the area. The shower peaks about December 13 and this meteor may have be the opening act of that celestial event, McKinney said.

"At first guess," he said, "it's probably the beginnings of that shower."

Fetzer, Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, from Madison, Kaveh Afrasiabi, an author and political scientist from Boston, and Kenneth Katzman, an advisor to US Congress from Washington.
