Syria must curb armed gangs with iron fist
Pressure is mounting on Syria as a number of countries including European states are expelling Syrian ambassadors and diplomats.
France, Britain, Spain, Germany, and Italy say the expulsions are in response to the Friday massacre of civilians in Houla. Canada and Australia are doing the same. British foreign secretary William Hague says the US will also take similar action.
This is the latest form of pressure by Western states and their allies on the Syrian government that blame Damascus for killing civilians since unrest erupted in Syria over a year ago. Britain says the pressure will increase.

Peace Dead? 'Houla massacre Al-Qaeda act'
The UN Security Council has strongly condemned the murder of 108 men, women and children in the Syrian village of Houla. According to initial reports, many of the victims were executed at point blank-range. The Syrian government has flat-out rejected responsibility for the murders - saying a third-party is behind the slaughter - aimed at destabilizing the situation. Syria's largest and best armed rebel group reacted to the slaughter saying it won't abide by an international ceasefire unless the UN intervenes. RT's correspondent Anastasia Churkina has more on the Security Council's response. Also the rebels are adamant that the blame for the Houla massacre lies with the government. But former Pentagon official Michael Maloof says the rebels' side of the story just doesn't add up.

"HOUSTON -- While some call it hogwash, others are fascinated by unidentified flying objects, or UFOs.
If aliens wanted to land somewhere on this planet it seems the Lone Star state would make the short list. With well-known cases like the Stephenville sightings in 2008, and even those bizarre blinking lights in Texas City last month, the only state that reports more UFO's than Texas is California.
Chuck Stansburge is a UFO investigator. He said he works for MUFON, or the Mutual UFO Network.
"There are going to be some people who watch this and say maybe that man is a little crazy, possibility, I've been told that many times," he said.
Long before tackling the paranormal Standburge carried a badge. He said he spent years in law enforcement in Colorado and Oklahoma.
Then a disability forced Chuck into early retirement. That left him with plenty of time to explore his passion of strange sightings that are reported in a 14-county area in Southeast Texas.
He said trading in a uniform for UFOs wasn't exactly a household decision. His wife Sandra just didn't get her husband's fascination.
"I had never seen anything, or heard anything from friends relatives, or anyone I ever worked with, so UFOs, no," she said.
But an experience with her own eyes would eventually make her a believer too, she said.
What she saw that night will remain a mystery. But there are a handful of cases that her husband works each week. He looked into the lights in Texas City—and it seems that case is now closed.
MUFON did a mock up and it turned out to be lanterns.
MUFON said that 90 percent of cases are eventually solved, but that doesn't stop him.
"There's stuff out here definitely all over the state of Texas," he said. "

Strange lights in the night sky over Blue Springs have UFO investigators interested.
Neighbors say in the past two weeks they have seen multi-colored lights in the sky, and the Missouri UFO Network is now conducting its own investigation. The video of these orbs hovering is causing quite the debate in Blue Springs and is the topic of discussion in the quiet suburb.
Robert Kover first noticed it two weeks ago and went down to get a closer look. He was confronted by a neighbor who thought he was spying on women, until he handed her his binoculars.
"I showed her the star that [was] in the sky, just to get somebody else's perspective on it, and they said they had never seen anything like it before," Kover said.
Becky Neely said it was vibrating red, green and blue lights.
"It was like nothing I've ever seen before, but with binoculars we could see it fairly well, and it was off in the distance," Neely said.
Teresa Price saw it twice. The first time was the same night Kover and Neely did, and she noticed it again when she was walking her dogs the following week. However, the second time things were even more bizarre.
"It was up in the sky and then it just dropped and stayed stationary in that lower position," Price said.
Price had seen KCTV5's recent news report on domestic drones that are now being used by local governments and law enforcement agencies, and thought that was what it was.
"It kind of made me think that there is some sort of drone out there. Why is it out at night? I don't know," Price said.
Kover called the KCTV5 Investigative Hotline and posted a sighting on a UFO spotters website. The night of a interview, KCTV5's Dave Jordan spotted similar sightings.
Kover was contacted by Margie Kay with the Missouri UFO Network, who decided to investigate for herself the following night.
Kay interviewed everyone who claimed to have seen the UFOs and then set up telescopes to watch the sightings herself. Neighbors came out hoping to see the activity that captivated the community.
As the sky darkened, one of them appeared. Kay initially dismissed it.
"I am 90 percent sure we are looking at Vega in this instance, and there are some other planets out right now," said Kay.
But she came to a different conclusion after others starting appearing. And after she put in a call to a colleague to take a look at what she thought was Vega, that person described it as pure white.
"That is not what we are seeing. We're seeing colors in this. I see green in this one and in the other I see red, green and blue," Kay said. "I don't think it's a planet at this point. I don't know what it is. It's unidentified."
KCTV5 contacted Blue Springs police, and they have said they haven't received any calls about this. KCTV5 also contacted NORAD, and a spokesman said that he did hear about a similar sighting, but he wasn't sure if it was in Missouri because that division of NORAD monitors the entire Midwest."

From ESOcast, explore the state-of-the-art technology behind the Very Large telescope, which has provided astronomers with an unequalled view of the Universe. To obtain the sharpest images of the sky, the VLT has to cope with two major effects that distort the images of celestial objects. The first one is mirror deformations due to their large sizes. This problem is corrected using a computer-controlled support system — active optics — that ensures that the mirrors keep their desired shapes under all circumstances. The second effect is produced by Earth's atmosphere, which makes stars appear blurry, even with the largest telescopes. Adaptive optics is a real-time correction of the distortions produced by the atmosphere using computer-controlled mirrors that deform hundreds of times per second to counteract the atmospheric effects.
As one demonstration of its power the VLT's sensitive infrared cameras, helped by adaptive optics, have been able to peer through the massive dust clouds that block our view to Milky Way's core. The images, taken over many years, have allowed astronomers to actually watch stars orbiting around the monstrous black hole that lies in the center of our galaxy. It was even possible to detect energetic flares from gas clouds falling into the black hole.

Lebanon PM in bid to end Syria-linked violence
Fighting linked to the Syria conflict has continued in the Lebanese city of Tripoli.
Monday saw more fierce clashes as tension spilled over between the
Sunni Muslim community, whose members have led the Syrian uprising, and
Alawite supporters of President al-Assad.
Medical sources say two men were killed and at least 20 wounded.
Tripoli, which lies 70 kilometres from Beirut, saw similar clashes
earlier this year. The latest outbreak followed protests by Islamists
after a man was arrested by the Lebanese authorities.
The Islamists argued that he had been helping Syrian refugees. The
authorities said he had been in contact with a “terrorist organisation”.
Following the weekend’s violence, the Lebanese prime minister – a
Sunni Muslim from Tripoli – met religious leaders, with more talks due to be held on Monday.

Strange Scary Sound In The Sky!
Was out walking my dog earlier today and started hearing these horrible noises coming from the sky. I still have NO idea what they were but can assure you that it wasn't coming from the pylons behind me. I walk here nearly every day, and never before have I heard anything like this! I and the other dog walkers I passed were all pretty sketched out!! Went on for about 30 minutes before it stopped.
Does anyone know what this was? I live in Dorset in the UK, near Bournemouth.

Chinese warships dock in Hong Kong
Two of China's most advanced warships have docked in Hong Kong, in what some see as a deliberate display of China's naval strength.
This comes amid a statemement by the Chinese naval commander that the recent joint US-Philippine drill in the South China Sea did not "target" any particular country.
The warships in the 10th Chinese Naval Escort Taskforce - the Yuncheng 571 frigate and Haikou 171 destroyer - arrived in Hong Kong's Stonecutters army base on Monday for a five-day visit.
