Aftermath of IED Strike on MRAP in Logar Province

Freelance video journalist David Axe, on his fourth trip to Afghanistan in March 2011, was embedded with the U.S. Army in Logar Province, south of Kabul. He joined troops on patrols of local villages and on a mission to clear roads of improvised explosive devices (IED), and talked with U.S. military commanders about security in Logar Province and the status of U.S. training of the Afghan army and police. He also recorded his experience while inside a military vehicle after it struck an IED. Ignore event date.

26 and 27 May 2011, the Battle Group Raptor conducted operation Go Fast in the province of Kapisa in Afghanistan, alongside the Afghan security forces.

NATO/ISAF - On May 26-27, 2011, the French Battle Group Raptor conducted Operation "Go Fast” in the province of Kapisa alongside Afghan security forces. The objective of the mission was to secure the primary route used to resupply three Afghan advanced combat positions (COP: Combat Outpost) in the region of Alasay, east of Kabul.

From first light, as the Franco-Afghan forces progressed, they were targeted by insurgents. The precise and quick response of the paratroopers restored calm.

A little later, as the convoy was heading to the east of the valley, the insurgents resumed their harassment, using notably adolescents as combatants and even children to carry their weapons, thus putting the French and Afghan forces in a difficult position with an asymmetrical threat, such as the use of human shields.

However, this example of shoulder to shoulder cooperation between ANSF and their allied counterparts concluded successfully, as in addition to the effective security of the main route for the replenishment of COP Afghanistan, it allowed the Afghan National Police to question several local Afghan insurgents, among them two who were formally identified as IED makers (improvised explosive devices).
