The Russian embassy in Tripoli, Libya, came under attack on Wednesday evening when gunmen tried to break into the building.
The sound of gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades could be heard. There are no reports of diplomats injured in the assault.
A car was set on fire outside the embassy's diplomatic compound at approximately 20.15 local time (18.15 GMT).
