Indonesia: At least fourteen dead as Sinabung erupts *GRAPHIC*

At least 14 people were killed Saturday when an Indonesian volcano that had been rumbling for months unleashed a major eruption. Mount Sinabung erupted a day after authorities allowed nearly 14,000 people living outside a five-kilometre (three-mile) zone to return to their homes after saying that volcanic activity had decreased.

A series of blasts thundered from the 2,600-metre (8,530-foot) tall Sinabung, sending lava and pyroclastic flows spewing up to 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles). Following the eruption, those who had been allowed to return home were ordered to again evacuate.

Among the dead was a university student making a documentary on the effect of the volcano on the local residents. Two journalists, four high school students and their teacher also perished.
